Action star Vidyut Jammwal is all ready to take his martial arts skills global! According to a report by ‘Deadline’, the Bollywood actor has joined the cast of Legendary Entertainment’s upcoming live-action ‘Street Fighter’ movie, inspired by Capcom’s iconic video game franchise.

While an official announcement from the studio is still not out, sources told ‘Deadline’ that Vidyut Jammwal will step into the role of Dhalsim, the fire-breathing, limb-stretching yogi first introduced in ‘Street Fighter II’ back in 1991.

Dhalsim has always been portrayed as a peace-loving monk who only enters combat to protect and provide for his family, making him one of the more spiritual characters in the ‘Street Fighter’ universe.

The actor, known for leading the ‘Commando’ series and films like ‘Khuda Haafiz’, ‘IB71’, and ‘Crakk’, has often performed his own stunts, gaining a reputation as one of Bollywood’s top action heroes. He has also received training in Kalaripayattu, a traditional Indian martial art. He prominently showcased this in the film ‘Junglee’ (2019).

Vidyut started his acting career in Telugu cinema with ‘Sakthi’ in 2011 and made his Bollywood debut the same year in ‘Force’, where he played the antagonist opposite John Abraham. Since then, he has headlined multiple action-packed films and starred in Tamil hits like ‘Thuppakki’ and ‘Billa II’.

The ‘Street Fighter’ adaptation has been generating serious buzz, not just because of the franchise’s legendary status but also for its star-studded cast.

Joining Vidyut in this global fighting saga are Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog, Orville Peck as Vega, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Roman Reigns as Akuma, and Hirooki Goto as E. Honda.

The film is directorial of Kitao Sakurai, known for his unconventional comedy film ‘Bad Trip’.

Since its debut in 1987, ‘Street Fighter’ has become one of the most beloved video game franchises globally, selling over 55 million copies and spawning films, TV shows, and countless merchandise.
